San Manuel Crossing
Part of the Lower San Pedro River Important Bird Area (IBA).
This is a small BLM parcel (160 acres). One kilometer long transect lines following the river channel have been established at this property. A mile further south from this location is a property acquired by Salt River Project (SRP) for Southwest Willow Flycatcher and Yellow-billed Cuckoo mitigation known as Spirit Hollow.
BLM land at San Manuel Crossing and private land at Dudleyville Crossing are open for walking in.
Along with world class stands of cottonwood/willow riparian forest, the San Pedro also supports Arizona’s largest remaining intact stand of old growth mesquite bosque, spanning the area between San Manuel and Mammoth. Home to some of the only perennial water in this area of the Sonoran Desert.
