Martinez Lake – Fisher’s Landing

Northeast of Yuma, the Colorado River flows for 30 miles through Imperial National Wildlife Refuge and fills Martinez Lake on the south side of the refuge.  A canoe or small boat is a great way to explore Martinez Lake and the many backwaters.  Walk out to the elevated point alongside the sheriff’s station for a good view of the lake.  The cattail marsh has Virginia and Clapper Rails.  The lake is good for a variety of ducks, mergansers, gulls, and terns.  Osprey are year-round residents and joined in winter by harriers and falcons.
