Alamo Lake State Park
A uniquely situated desert lake. Storms from the Baja, west and north, often bring an abundance of waterfowl and sometimes uncommon birds to the lake and the riparian areas at the north end of the lake. Migrating birds are frequent visitors. Over 174 species of birds have been identified at the lake.
Spring rains bring an abundance of wild flowers and the lake environment attracts a variety of wildlife year round, foxes, coyotes, mule deer and wild burros. Stargazers are sure to enjoy the amazing views of the night sky, with the nearest city lights some 40 miles away.
The Alamo Dam Project was authorized by Congress in the Flood Control Act of 1944. The purposes of the project were to protect the Lower Colorado River area from floods originating on the Bill Williams River drainage and to provide water storage for irrigation and public recreation.
The park offers camping and cabins as well as water activities.
