Jacob Lake

Nestled among the towering Ponderosa Pine trees of the North Kaibab National Forest on the Kaibab Plateau, the town of Jacob Lake is known as the “Gateway to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon”.  The actual lake is dry most of the year but marsh areas along the edges of the lake are great bird habitats.  The Kaibab Visitor Center is in the town and has feeders that can be very attractive to migrants.  A drive or hike along nearby Vermillion Cliffs offers California condor sightings and beautiful views (30 minutes from Jacob Lake).  This is where the condors are tagged and released.
