McDowell Sonoran Preserve
The Scottsdale McDowell Sonoran Preserve is a large, permanently protected, sustainable desert habitat that includes an interconnected network of non-motorized, multi-use trails (hike/bike/horse) accessed from multiple trailhead locations. At 30,200 acres, it is the largest urban preserve in the nation.
The Preserve provides habitat for at least 185 species of birds, 20 of which are considered sensitive or are experiencing global declines, such as bald and golden eagles, peregrine falcon, purple martin, and gilded flicker.
Granite Loop Trail is known to be good for bird watching.
