Mt. Lemmon Highway – Bear Wallow
Located at mile marker 22.1 along the Mt. Lemmon Highway, Bear Wallow is a favorite among local birders seeking the region’s high-elevation summer visitors, such as cordilleran flycatcher, flammulated owl, and northern saw-whet owl. This gravel road offers plenty of wide pull-offs to get out and explore the ponderosa pine-oak mix at over 7,000 feet above sea level. During autumn this area offers some exceptional fall colors. The historical campground is permanently closed.
