Mt Trumbull Trailhead

The Mt. Trumbull Trail is located in the Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument in northwestern Arizona. This remote and rugged area offers unique opportunities for birdwatching in a less-visited part of the Grand Canyon region. Mount Trumbull Summit Trail is 5.1 miles round trip with an elevation change of 1,518 feet.

Directions: From Fredonia, AZ: Travel 8 miles west on State Highway 389 to its intersection with Toroweap Rd. (County 109). Follow Toroweap Rd. southwest about 38 miles to its intersection with County Rd. 5. Continue south 6 miles on County Rd. 115. Bear right, and continue 7 miles east on County 5 to Nixon Flat, a large, open meadow at the foot of Mt. Trumbull. From St. George, Utah via South River Road. Head south on BLM Road 1069 towards County Road 5 for 38 miles. Continue left on County Road 5 for 12 miles. Turn left at the Mt. Trumbull Schoolhouse. Continue east for 12 miles. The Mt. Trumbull Trailhead is on the left side of the road.

Best time to visit: April to November. Snow may exist on the mesa into early April. County Road 5 is usually impassible in the Mt. Trumbull area from December through February.

Know Before You Go

At the top of the mesa the trail becomes harder to follow. If you lose the trail, it is easy to walk through the open forest. Keep going uphill and you will reach the summit.
