Dead Horse Ranch State Park
Over 400-acres in a beautiful greenbelt along the Verde River close to the base of the Mingus Mountains. Beautiful and varied habitat and is included within the Tuzigoot Important Bird Area.
Jail Trail
The mile-long, easy trail follows the banks of the Verde River through River Front Park and on to Dead Horse Ranch State Park. The trail is shaded by thick tangles of willows and enormous cottonwood trees towering over running water, cattail ringed coves and rock-strewn flood plains.
Lower Tapco
Approximately 3,500 feet of shoreline that is perfect for picnicking, bird watching, photography or just enjoying the sights and sounds of the river.
Page Springs Fish Hatchery
Nestled along the lush riparian corridor of Lower Oak Creek, an amazing overall experience for any wildlife enthusiasts. Birders will want to explore the 1.5 mile Blackhawk Trail.

If solitude and great birding is your thing, this is the place. Here the Verde River is bordered by limestone cliffs to the north and a Mesquite Bosque forest to the south.

One of northern Arizona’s largest freshwater marshes with a variety of diverse habitat, birds and wildlife, this site is an oasis and simply lovely spot to view birds, relax and reflect.
Tuzigoot Bridge
Experience two very different habitats - riparian as well as desert scrub. With two vastly different components, it easily doubles the number of species one can see.

One of the very few places where you can walk alongside the Verde River for a half mile and be covered by a Cottonwood/Willow canopy. The birding is good, and the access is quite easy.
