Dankworth Pond State Park

Part of Roper Lake State Park, this site is one of several good birding opportunities near Safford. This 15-acre pond welcomes riparian and wetland species year-round. Species like northern shoveler, ruddy duck, and ring-necked duck are common visitors to the pond. Desert scrub habitats surround the area creating a nice mosaic of habitats for birds and other wildlife. Javelina, mule deer, and gray fox are also common visitors to the pond.
